2008 Conference Information

The first Urbis workshop will take place from June 18 to 22 in a charming Moroccan town called Essaouira, about 45 minutes away from Marrakech. This site will help inform you about the purpose of the workshop, and share information about participants, the agenda, logistics and outcomes.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together members of the Urbis program from DIG, implementing partners, and beneficiaries, and to create an “Urbis esprit de corps.” This is also an opportunity for DIG to introduce the strong pro-poor organizations we have identified in the Urbis cities, to enable participants themselves to explain the capacity building strategies for each of those organizations, and to illustrate how Urbis projects can be a model for future global capacity building efforts. Specific goals of the workshop include:

  1. Review city by city capacity building strategies;
  2. Share preliminary lessons learned about capacity building of pro-poor organizations;
  3. Present our vision of the “blueprint” of Urbis learning to the Gates Foundation.
